Suffern Slam Society holds a poetry slam the first Saturday of every month at Ireland's 32 in Suffern, NY from 730 PM to 10 PM. A poetry slam is a performance poetry competition judged by arbitrarily-selected audience members. Where traditional poetry readings are about supporting the poet, poetry slams focus on the interaction between audience and poet. Strong writing and strong delivery are both important. Whether you want to come out and participate by performing or by spectating, you …

We are interested in fostering informal creative outlets for neighborhood musicians and performers, and have begun partnering with two of them (Eupraxia and Cowboy Opera), to create interesting performances. The events are meant to be part performance, part socializing, with space within the performance for getting to know each other with the music comfortable enough for conversation. Mixing Welsh readings of Dylan Thomas with Bob Dylan and other music? Who would do that? But it's through the …

Hi All, A lovely woman named Zoe first organized this group & I joined it right away. Soon after that she announced that she stepped down due to some nasty emails. I had already read the intros of other members & felt such kinship that I stepped up as organizer. I think with membership recently passing the 200 mark, I've got more than adequate support for any negativity even if I am not a "tough New Yorker." I'm not even a New Yorker. In fact, since stepping up, I have not received a single nega …
I started this group because I like to write and play music and am looking for others with the same hashkafa (outlook or consciousness) My music is not Jewish per se, but its a good place to start, and we'll see where it goes from here. You should join this group if youd like to collaborate with real people in song, performance, dance, poetry rather than sit at home on your working computer. Original works are highly encouraged.
